Aloha, I’m avery.

My faves call me Aves. I am a writer, wellness coach, fitness professional, and island adventurer currently calling Oahu home.

On these pages we get real about life — we talk all things mental, physical, and spiritual health, wellness tips, and excerpts from my very own journals. Grab your coffee, some wine, and stay a while.

Local Shops in Kauai You Just Can't Miss

Though I call Oahu home, the Island of Kauai is the original slice of paradise that captured this wandering heart of mine. My family vacationed in Poipu Beach almost every other year for as long as I can remember. While on a snorkel cruise with Holo Holo Charters along the Napali Coast (10/10 recommend!), I decided one day I would call the islands home — I was 18. Nine years later, I made the move.

I’ve already made it back to Kauai twice in the past year, and it still restores my soul. Planning your trip to the Garden Isle? Don’t miss these locally-owned and operated shops for souvenirs and more.

Kauai Coffee Company

We’ll start with one of my favorite stops on the island, Kauai Coffee Company: newly revamped tours include a drive over the expansive farm with stunning ocean views and ends with planting a coffee tree, or taking a stroll through the coffee journey from seed to cup.

Tasting is always free, so pop on by when you’re in need of a pick-me-up. Peruse the gift shop and select from a large variety of roasts and other coffee-related souvenirs to take home.

Monkeypod Jam

One of the best lunches I’ve had in my travels was a grilled sandwich and salad from Monkeypod Jam — simple, fresh and delicious. Naturally I finished off my meal with a homemade lemon bar. Hell yes.

The preserves, locally sourced, make great gifts and souvenirs and you can taste to your hearts’ delight. Not checking a bag? No worries! Many of the preserves come in carry on approved jar sizes.

Aloha Exchange

Aloha Exchange is by far one of my favorite shops on Kauai. I always have to make a stop no matter what — and usually walk out with a t-shirt or trucker hat.

Warehouse 3540

Okay this place is seriously rad. Stop by Warehouse 3540 and grab yourself a cup of coffee, wander past the artist studios, and shop for jewelry, local art, and more. Hungry? Food trucks often pull up outside. Cool off with The Fresh Shave shaved ice.

Work It Out Kauai

Kapa’a town is one of my favorite spots on the island to wander and shop. After grabbing a missle-proof coffee shot and kombucha from Kauai Juice Co, I pop into Work It Out Kauai boutique to take a peek at their carefully curated collection of workout and streetwear, swimsuits, and beach essentials.
